Product Specific Information

  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

This gene encodes the coagulation factor XIII A subunit. Coagulation factor XIII is the last zymogen activated in the blood coagulation cascade. Plasma factor XIII is a heterotetramer composed of two A subunits and two B subunits. The A subunits have catalytic activity, while the B subunits act as carrier molecules. Platelet factor XIII consists only of two A subunits identical to those in plasma.

Upon activation by thrombin and calcium ions, plasma factor XIII dissociates its B subunits to yield the active enzyme, factor XIIIa. This enzyme functions as a transglutaminase, catalyzing crosslinking between fibrin molecules to stabilize the clot. It also crosslinks α2-plasmin inhibitor or fibronectin to fibrin α chains. Factor XIII deficiency can be type I (lack of A and B subunits) or type II (lack of A subunit only), leading to bleeding tendency, poor wound healing, and habitual abortion.
