This antibody detects endogenous levels of Smad1 only when phosphorylated at Ser214.

Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the SMAD family, which includes proteins similar to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins act as signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
SMAD1 mediates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling, regulating processes such as cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses. Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1 is phosphorylated and activated by BMP receptor kinase, then forms a complex with SMAD4 to regulate transcription. It is also targeted by SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases (SMURF1, SMURF2) for ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
