Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of SMAD2 only when phosphorylated at Ser255.
Target Information
SMAD2 (MADH2, MAD2) regulates multiple cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation. SMAD2 interacts with TGF-beta receptors through the SMAD anchor for receptor activation, and its translocation into the nucleus is a central event in TGF-beta signaling. Phosphorylation by ERK1 enhances SMAD2 transcriptional activity, while calmodulin negatively regulates it. Upon TGF-beta signaling, SMAD2 is phosphorylated, dissociates from SARA, and associates with SMAD4 for nuclear translocation and transcriptional regulation. SMAD2 can also be phosphorylated by activin type 1 receptor kinase. Alternative splicing variants encoding SMAD2 have been observed.
