PLAC1은 원래 태반 및 배아 발달 중 영양막 세포계에서 특이적으로 발현되는 단백질로 확인되었습니다. 이후 다양한 인간 암, 특히 유방암에서 비정상적으로 발현되는 것으로 보고되었습니다.
PLAC1은 세포막에 결합된 단백질로, 모체-태반 계면에서 세포 간 또는 리간드-수용체 상호작용을 조절하는 수용체 유사 기능을 하는 것으로 추정됩니다.
PLAC1의 발현 감소는 cyclin D1 및 AKT kinase의 발현 감소와 관련이 있으며, 암세포 표면에 발현된다는 점에서 암 면역치료 타깃으로서의 잠재력을 가집니다.
