Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Target Information

This gene encodes a putative retinal G-protein coupled receptor and is a member of the opsin subfamily of the 7-transmembrane, G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. Like other opsins that bind retinaldehyde, it contains a conserved lysine residue in the seventh transmembrane domain.
The protein functions as a photoisomerase, catalyzing the conversion of all-trans-retinal to 11-cis-retinal. The reverse isomerization occurs with rhodopsin in retinal photoreceptor cells. It is expressed in tissue adjacent to retinal photoreceptor cells, including the retinal pigment epithelium and Mueller cells.
Mutations in this gene may be associated with autosomal recessive or dominant retinitis pigmentosa (arRP and adRP). Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
