Target Information
ADP-ribosylation factor 1 (ARF1) is a member of the human ARF gene family, which encodes small guanine nucleotide-binding proteins. These proteins stimulate the ADP-ribosyltransferase activity of cholera toxin and play a key role in vesicular trafficking as activators of phospholipase D.
The ARF protein family includes six ARF proteins and eleven ARF-like proteins, all belonging to the RAS superfamily. ARF proteins are categorized into class I and class III, sharing common gene organization. ARF1 localizes to the Golgi apparatus and is essential for intra-Golgi transport. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts encoding the same protein have been identified.
