Target Information
Acyl-CoA thioesterases (ACOTs) are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of acyl-CoA to coenzyme A (CoA) and free fatty acids. They regulate intracellular levels of fatty acids and acyl-CoAs.
ACOT1 (CTE1) and ACOT2 (PTE2) are members of this family, differing in localization—ACOT1 is cytoplasmic while ACOT2 is mitochondrial. Both catalyze the conversion of Palmitoyl-CoA and water to free CoA and palmitate, crucial for fatty acid regulation.
ACOT2 is expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms and is encoded on human chromosome 14.
