Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions. IL-6 is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and triggers transcriptional inflammatory responses through the IL-6 receptor alpha.
Elevated IL-6 levels are linked to various inflammation-associated diseases, including diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection).
