This antibody detects endogenous levels of AhR only when phosphorylated at Serine 36.
Target Information
AHR (Ah Receptor) is part of a protein family including ARNT (HIF-1 Beta) and Drosophila proteins PER and SIM. It contains an N-terminal PAS domain (~200 amino acids) and is expressed in various tissues. AHR binds specific DNA enhancer sequences to initiate transcription of cytochrome P-450 (CYPIA1) mRNA. It acts as a ligand-activated transcription factor regulating biological responses to planar aromatic hydrocarbons.
AHR regulates xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes such as cytochrome P450. Known ligands include polycyclic and halogenated aromatic compounds (e.g., TCDD). Unlike steroid/thyroid hormone receptors, no physiological ligand is known. In non-ligand activated cells, AHR complexes with HSP90 in the cytoplasm. Upon agonist binding, AHR transforms into a nuclear DNA-binding form, dissociates from HSP90, and forms a heterodimer with Arnt. Diseases associated with AHR include eosinophilic fasciitis and seborrheic dermatitis.
