Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in the detection of cool sensations by activation below 25°C. It is responsive to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and changes in intracellular pH. TRPM8 allows passage of monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cations (Ca²⁺).
Expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with elevated levels observed in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also found in certain nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin) but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
