Target Information
Cytokeratins (CK) are intermediate filaments of epithelial cells, present in both keratinizing tissues (e.g., skin) and non-keratinizing cells (e.g., mesothelial cells). Although not a traditional endothelial marker, cytokeratins can be found in some microvascular endothelial cells.
At least 20 different cytokeratins (40–70 kDa, pI 5–8.5) are identifiable via two-dimensional gel electrophoresis.
Cytokeratins are classified into type I (acidic) and type II (basic) families, with at least one member from each expressed in all epithelial cells.
Monoclonal antibodies against cytokeratins are valuable for tumor identification and classification.
