Target Information

LIMK2 is a serine/threonine kinase involved in the regulation of actin cytoskeletal changes via phosphorylation of cofilin. It has been implicated in brain development.
Although zinc fingers typically bind DNA or RNA, the LIM motif mediates protein-protein interactions. LIM kinase-1 and LIM kinase-2 form a subfamily characterized by two N-terminal LIM motifs and a C-terminal kinase domain.
LIMK2 is phosphorylated and activated by ROCK, a downstream effector of Rho, and subsequently phosphorylates cofilin, inhibiting its actin-depolymerizing activity. This pathway contributes to Rho-induced reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton.
At least three transcript variants encoding different isoforms of LIMK2 have been identified.
