Target Information
LIMK2 is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates actin cytoskeletal dynamics via phosphorylation of cofilin. It plays roles in brain development and actin filament organization.
LIMK2, together with LIMK1, forms a subfamily characterized by two N-terminal LIM motifs and a C-terminal kinase domain.
Activated by ROCK (Rho-associated kinase), LIMK2 phosphorylates cofilin, inhibiting its actin-depolymerizing activity, contributing to actin cytoskeleton reorganization.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
