Target Information
Myocilin is an extracellular protein expressed in the eye, including the retina, trabecular meshwork, and ciliary body. It can form homomultimers in vivo and interact with extracellular matrix components via the Hep II domain of FibroPVRL1. Myocilin also associates with myosin regulatory light chain, suggesting a role in the actomyosin system and trabecular meshwork (TM) function, which regulates intraocular pressure (IOP). Dysfunction of TM may lead to elevated IOP and glaucoma. The MYOC gene (also known as TIGR) maps to chromosome 1q24.3 and mutations are linked to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
