Target Information
Myocilin is an extracellular protein expressed in the eye, including the retina, trabecular meshwork, and ciliary body. It forms homomultimers in vivo and associates with extracellular matrix components via interactions with the Hep II domain of FibroPVRL1. Myocilin also interacts with myosin regulatory light chain, suggesting a role in the actomyosin system and in maintaining trabecular meshwork (TM) function, which regulates intraocular pressure (IOP). Dysfunction of TM can lead to elevated IOP and glaucoma. The MYOC gene (also known as TIGR) is located on chromosome 1q24.3, and mutations in this gene are linked to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
