Target Information

Myocilin is an extracellular protein expressed in the eye, including the retina, trabecular meshwork, and ciliary body. It can form homomultimers in vivo and associate with extracellular matrix components via interactions with the Hep II domain of FibroPVRL1. Myocilin also interacts with myosin regulatory light chain, suggesting a role in the actomyosin system and in regulating trabecular meshwork function, which controls intraocular pressure (IOP). Dysfunction of this system may lead to elevated IOP and glaucoma. The MYOC gene (also known as TIGR) is located at the GLC1A locus on chromosome 1q24.3, and mutations in this gene are linked to primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
