Target Information
Glycophorin C (GYPC) is an integral membrane glycoprotein present on human erythrocytes. It plays a crucial role in maintaining red cell mechanical stability. Mutations in GYPC are associated with Gerbich and Yus phenotypes (deletion of exons 3 and 2, respectively). Webb and Duch antigens (glycophorin D) result from single point mutations in the GYPC gene. The GYPC protein has minimal homology with glycophorins A and B.
