Product Specific Information
MA1-7607 detects HBcAg from virus samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, ELISA, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemistry procedures.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant HBcAg core protein, with the epitope corresponding to residues surrounding residue 80.
Store at 4ºC for short-term and -80ºC for long-term preservation.
Target Information
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major cause of acute and chronic liver disease and the most common form of parenterally transmitted viral hepatitis.
The virus is spherical, approximately 42 nm in diameter, containing a 27 nm partially double-stranded DNA core enclosed within a lipoprotein coat.
The nucleocapsid core antigen is designated as hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg), while the surface antigens are termed hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg).
Core antigens are localized in nuclei, whereas surface antigens are found in the cytoplasm of infected cells.
Antibodies to surface antigens appear early in infection, while antibodies to core antigens are detected later.
HBV affects an estimated 350–400 million people globally.
Immunization against HBV is an essential part of preventive medicine and is routinely offered to children in many countries.
HBV belongs to the Hepadnaviridae family, and chronic infection can lead to hepatocellular carcinoma.
