Product Specific Information

MA1-7610 detects HBcAg from virus samples.
It has been successfully used in ELISA, WB, immunoprecipitation, and immunohistochemistry procedures.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant HBcAg core protein, with the epitope corresponding to residues 130–140.

Target Information

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major cause of acute and chronic liver disease and is the most common form of parenterally transmitted viral hepatitis.
HBV is spherical (42 nm diameter) and contains a 27 nm partially double-stranded DNA core enclosed within a lipoprotein coat.
The nucleocapsid core antigen is designated as hepatitis B core antigen (HBcAg), while the outer surface antigens are known as hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg).
Core antigens localize within the nuclei, and surface antigens are found in the cytoplasm of infected cells.
Antibodies to surface antigens appear early in infection, while antibodies to core antigens are detected after several weeks.
Globally, HBV affects approximately 350–400 million people. Immunization against HBV is an essential part of preventive medicine and is recommended for children in many countries.
HBV belongs to the Hepadnaviridae family, and persistent infections can lead to hepatocellular carcinoma.
