This antibody can be used for ELISA, Western blot, IHC, and Immunoprecipitation of in vitro-translated core and pre-core proteins.
It strongly recognizes WHc (but not DHBc) in ELISA and immunoblot, and reacts with synthetic HBc peptides.
Epitope: amino acids 1–10 (N-terminal).

Target Information

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a major cause of acute and chronic liver disease and is the most common form of parenterally transmitted viral hepatitis.
HBV is spherical (42 nm diameter) and contains a 27 nm partially double-stranded DNA core within a lipoprotein coat.

• Core antigen (HBcAg): localized in the nuclei of infected cells
• Surface antigen (HBsAg): present in the cytoplasm

Antibodies to surface antigens appear early in infection, while antibodies to core antigens appear later.
Globally, about 350–400 million people are HBV carriers. HBV infection can lead to persistent intracellular carriage and hepatocellular carcinoma.
HBV belongs to the Hepadnaviridae family and is more serious than hepatitis A virus infection.
Vaccination against HBV is a key preventive measure implemented in many countries.
