This product is preservative-free. It is recommended to add sodium azide to avoid contamination (final concentration 0.05%–0.1%).

Recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies are produced using in vitro expression systems developed by cloning specific antibody DNA sequences from immunoreactive rabbits. Individual clones are screened to select the best candidates for production.

This antibody has specificity for Human Tryptophan Hydroxylase 1 (TPH1).

Target Information

Tryptophan hydroxylase (TPH) catalyzes the 5-hydroxylation of tryptophan, the first step in the biosynthesis of indoleamines (serotonin and melatonin). In mammals, serotonin biosynthesis primarily occurs in neurons originating in the Raphe nuclei of the brain, while melatonin synthesis takes place in the pineal gland.

Although TPH catalyzes the same reaction in both regions, TPH activity is rate-limiting for serotonin but not for melatonin biosynthesis. Serotonin functions mainly as a neurotransmitter, whereas melatonin is the principal hormone secreted by the pineal gland. TPH activity is enhanced by phosphorylation by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) and Ca²⁺/calmodulin kinase II (CAM K II), both of which phosphorylate Ser58 within the regulatory domain of TPH.
