PA1-1043 detects Synaptophysin in rat, mouse, bovine, and sheep samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot and immunofluorescence procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a ~33.8 kDa protein representing Synaptophysin in rat, mouse, and bovine brain tissue as well as sheep retinas.

The PA1-1043 immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues G(253)–D(272) of rat Synaptophysin.
This sequence is conserved in many species including human, mouse, and bovine.
The immunizing peptide (Cat. # PEP-279) is available for use in neutralization and control experiments.

Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding integral membrane glycoprotein present in presynaptic vesicles of nearly all neurons.
It has four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin at high calcium concentrations, suggesting involvement in synaptic vesicle endocytosis.
It also contributes to the regulation of short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity.
Synaptophysin is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and for differentiating neuroendocrine tumors.
Mutations in the gene can result in mental retardation (X-linked 96).
