In Western blot analysis of human adipose tissue lysate, this antibody detects a ~52 kDa protein representing Visfatin.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues S(472)–H(491) of human Visfatin.
Target Information
Visfatin, also known as pre-B cell colony-enhancing factor, is an adipocytokine abundantly secreted by visceral adipose tissue.
It exhibits insulin-mimetic effects by binding to the insulin receptor, reducing glucose release from liver cells, and stimulating glucose utilization in adipocytes and myocytes.
Visfatin is also involved in cell proliferation, biosynthesis of nicotinamide mono- and dinucleotide, and glucose homeostasis.
