Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질군에 속합니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 astrocyte와 일부 astroglia, 말초 신경계의 ganglia 위성세포 및 비수초성 Schwann 세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경 줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 마커로 매우 유용하며, astrocyte 유래로 추정되는 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP가 강하게 발현됩니다. 이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 발견됩니다.
GFAP는 발달 중 astrocyte와 다른 glial 세포를 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 돌연변이는 Alexander 병(희귀한 astrocyte 장애)을 유발합니다. GFAP 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
