This antibody is specific towards HDAC5. BLAST analysis suggests cross-reactivity with human HDAC5 based on 100% sequence homology. Cross-reactivity with HDAC5 from other sources has not been determined.

Target Information

Histones are key regulators of transcription, cell cycle progression, and development. Histone acetylation/deacetylation modifies chromatin structure and influences transcription factor access to DNA. HDAC5 belongs to the class II histone deacetylase family, possessing deacetylase activity and repressing transcription when tethered to a promoter. It coimmunoprecipitates with HDAC3 and interacts with myocyte enhancer factor-2 (MEF2) proteins, repressing MEF2-dependent genes. HDAC5 is associated with colon cancer, and two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
