Product Specific Information

The antibody detects a 105 kDa protein corresponding to the molecular mass of eEF2K on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of human recombinant eEF2K autophosphorylated in the presence of Ca²⁺ and Calmodulin.
This reactivity is removed after lambda phosphatase treatment.

Target Information

EEF2K (Eukaryotic Elongation Factor 2 Kinase) is a highly conserved serine/threonine kinase in the calmodulin signaling pathway.
Its activity is increased in cancers including breast cancer.
EEF2K regulates protein synthesis by controlling the rate of peptide chain elongation. Upon activation by upstream kinases such as AMPK or TRPM7, EEF2K phosphorylates elongation factor EEF2 at a single site, rendering EEF2 unable to bind ribosomes and reducing the rate of protein synthesis.
