Target Information
Caveolin-3 (CAV3) acts as a scaffolding protein within caveolar membranes. It interacts with G-protein alpha subunits to regulate their activity and may modulate voltage-gated potassium channels.
Caveolin-3 plays a critical role in sarcolemma repair in skeletal and cardiac muscle, enabling rapid membrane resealing after mechanical stress. It mediates recruitment of CAVIN2 and CAVIN3 to caveolae.
Mutations in CAV3 are associated with conditions such as HyperCKmia, rippling muscle disease 2, cardiomyopathy, long QT syndrome 9, sudden infant death syndrome, and myopathy.
