Target Information
N-cadherin is a 140 kDa transmembrane protein mediating calcium-dependent intercellular adhesion. It plays a crucial role in morphogenetic movements during development and regulates cell surface adhesion through homotypic interactions. Its function depends on association with the actin-cytoskeleton via catenin proteins, regulated by phosphorylation of beta-catenin. N-cadherin consists of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It is essential during gastrulation and for establishing left-right asymmetry.
