Product Specific Information

Description:
The RPA-T4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subset of mature T cells (T-helper cells), and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 is a receptor for HIV, and RPA-T4 blocks HIV binding and mixed lymphocyte reaction. The RPA-T4 antibody recognizes a different epitope from the OKT4 monoclonal antibody, and these antibodies do not cross-block each other.

Applications Tested:
Pre-titrated and tested by flow cytometric analysis of normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use: 5 µL (0.5 µg) per test (in 100 µL total volume). Suitable for 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and serves as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed on T-helper cells, and also on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is observed in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues. It plays a key role in T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and tyrosine kinase Lck. CD4 may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
