Target Information

Phosphorylation of serine residues on I-kappa-B proteins by IKK kinases, including IKBKB, marks them for degradation via the ubiquitination pathway, enabling activation of the NF-kappa-B complex.
IKK beta (Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta) is a serine kinase essential for NF-kappa-B signaling, activated by stimuli such as inflammatory cytokines, bacterial or viral products, DNA damage, or cellular stress.
It functions within the canonical IKK complex, phosphorylating inhibitors of NF-kappa-B on key serine residues, leading to their polyubiquitination and proteasomal degradation.
This process releases NF-kappa-B to translocate into the nucleus and activate transcription of genes involved in immune response, cell growth, and apoptosis protection.
Mutations in the IKK beta gene can result in Immunodeficiency 15 (IMD15).
