Target Information

Glutamate is the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain. It acts on ligand-gated receptor channels such as NMDA, AMPA, and kainate receptors involved in fast excitatory synaptic transmission.
Metabotropic glutamate receptors (mGluRs) regulate enzymes producing second messengers via G-protein coupling.
Group-I receptors (including mGluR1a and mGluR5) stimulate phospholipase C, increasing phosphoinositide turnover and calcium release.
Group-II (mGluR2, mGluR3) and Group-III receptors inhibit adenylyl cyclase activity.
