Target Information
TRPA1 is a TRP-related ion channel that responds to cold temperatures and pungent compounds, playing a role in nociceptor and hair cell transduction. It is a transformation-associated gene product in lung epithelia and is primarily expressed in sensory neurons. Blocking TRPA1 may provide therapeutic potential for treating cold hyperalgesia caused by inflammation and nerve damage. TRPA1 is also expressed outside the CNS and dysregulated during oncogenic transformation. The protein is structurally related to ankyrin and transmembrane proteins, and may function in signal transduction and growth control.
