Target Information
Antistasin is a 119-amino acid protein isolated from the salivary glands of the Mexican leech Haementeria officinalis.
This highly disulfide-bonded protein is a potent inhibitor of factor Xa. It facilitates digestion of tissues and may also protect gastric tissues from its own digestive enzymes.
Antistasin may have therapeutic utility as an anticoagulant and also exhibits strong metastatic activity.
Subcellular Location: Secreted
Tissue Specificity: Gland cells; more strongly expressed in the head than in gastric tissue.
