IFN alpha (Interferon alpha)는 Type I 인터페론으로, 척추동물에서만 발견되는 구조적으로 관련된 단백질 계열에 속합니다.
IFN-alpha는 수용체와 결합하여 여러 신호 전달 경로를 활성화하며, 주로 바이러스 감염에 대한 선천 면역 반응에 관여합니다.
인간의 경우, IFN alpha 유전자는 염색체 9번에 위치하며, 14개의 알파 아이소폼과 단일 베타, 오메가, 엡실론, 카파 아이소폼으로 구성되어 있습니다.
이 단백질은 주로 plasmacytoid dendritic cell에서 생성되며, 강력한 항바이러스 활성을 나타내고 적응면역을 조절합니다.
