Specificity: This antibody recognises CD31 (PECAM1), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily expressed on neutrophils, monocytes, platelets, and endothelial cells. CD31 functions as a cell adhesion molecule involved in leukocyte transendothelial migration during inflammation.
Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor regulating T and B cell signaling via dual ITIM motifs. Upon phosphorylation, these motifs provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases. CD31 is ubiquitously expressed within the vascular compartment, mainly at junctions between adjacent cells. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions.
CD31 plays diverse roles including:
- Modulation of integrin-mediated cell adhesion
- Transendothelial migration
- Angiogenesis and apoptosis
- Negative regulation of immunoreceptor signaling
- Autoimmunity and macrophage phagocytosis
