This antibody recognises CD31 (PECAM1), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily expressed on circulating cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, platelets, and endothelial cells. CD31 functions as a cell adhesion molecule involved in leukocyte transendothelial migration during inflammation.
Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor regulating T and B cell signaling via dual ITIM motifs that, upon phosphorylation, provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases. CD31 is ubiquitously expressed in the vascular compartment, mainly at cell junctions. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions. CD31 plays roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis, making it a key regulator in vascular biology.
