Target Information
The NDUFS7 gene encodes a subunit of the mitochondrial respiratory chain complex I (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase). This complex transfers electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain, with ubiquinone as the immediate electron acceptor. Mutations in this gene are associated with Leigh syndrome due to mitochondrial complex I deficiency, a severe neurological disorder causing symmetrical necrotic lesions in subcortical brain regions.
