Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase III (CAIII) is a member of a multigene family that encodes carbonic anhydrase isozymes. These enzymes catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide and are differentially expressed in various cell types.
CA3 expression is tissue-specific, with high levels in skeletal muscle and lower levels in cardiac and smooth muscle. Elevated CA3 levels are observed in some carriers of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The CA3 gene spans approximately 10.3 kb and contains seven exons and six introns.
