HPV E7 단백질은 작고(HPV16 E7은 98개의 아미노산, 15 kDa), 핵에 위치한 아연 결합 인산화 단백질입니다. 이들은 아데노바이러스 하위군 C의 E1A 단백질과 구조적 및 기능적으로 유사합니다. HPV16 E7의 첫 16개의 N-말단 아미노산은 E1A 단백질의 보존 영역 1(CR1)과 유사한 구역을 포함하고 있으며, 37번째 아미노산까지의 다음 도메인은 E1A의 영역 2(CR2) 전체와 상동성을 가집니다. 이러한 영역들은 세포 변형에 필수적이며, 바이러스의 변형 메커니즘이 유사함을 시사합니다. CR2 상동 영역에는 종양억제 단백질 pRb에 결합하는 LXCXE 모티프(잔기 22–26)가 포함되어 있습니다.
