HPV E7 단백질은 작은 아연 결합 인산화 단백질로, 핵 내에 위치하며 98개의 아미노산(약 15 kDa)로 구성되어 있습니다. 이는 아데노바이러스 C 아속의 E1A 단백질과 구조적, 기능적으로 유사합니다.
HPV16 E7의 N-말단 16개 아미노산은 E1A 단백질의 보존 영역 1(CR1)과 상동성을 가지며, 37번째 아미노산까지의 영역은 CR2 전체와 상동성을 보입니다.
이들 영역은 세포 변형에 필수적인 것으로 알려져 있으며, CR2 영역 내의 LXCXE 모티프(22–26번째 잔기)는 종양 억제 단백질 pRb와의 결합에 관여합니다.
