This antibody detects endogenous levels of p38 MAPK only when phosphorylated at Tyrosine 182.

Target Information

MAPK14 (p38 alpha) is a member of the stress-activated protein kinase class of MAPKs. The p38 MAPK cascade regulates cellular responses to stress, inflammation, and other signals. It is inactive in the nonphosphorylated form and becomes activated by dual phosphorylation at Thr-Gly-Tyr motifs. There are four isoforms of p38 MAPK differing in tissue expression and affinity for upstream activators and downstream effectors. Upon stimulation by TNF, IL-1, heat shock, or other signals, MAPK kinase-3/6 phosphorylate Thr180 and Tyr182 residues in p38 MAPK. Activated phospho-p38 MAPK phosphorylates transcription factors such as ATF-2, CHOP-1, and MEF-2.
