Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Smad1 only when phosphorylated at Serine 465.

Target Information

SMAD1 belongs to the SMAD family, which includes proteins homologous to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma. SMAD proteins are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
SMAD1 mediates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signals that regulate cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses. Upon BMP ligand binding, SMAD1 is phosphorylated and activated by BMP receptor kinases, forming a complex with SMAD4 for transcriptional regulation.
SMAD1 is a target for SMURF1 and SMURF2 E3 ubiquitin ligases and undergoes ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
