Target Information

IL-17F (Interleukin 17F, CTLA-8) is a cytokine belonging to the IL-17 family produced by inflammatory cells such as activated T cells, mast cells, and basophils. It is involved in allergic airway inflammation and induces cytokines, chemokines, and adhesion molecules in bronchial epithelial cells, vein endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and eosinophils.
IL-17F may be secreted as a homodimer or a heterodimer with IL-17A, acting through the IL-17R receptor to recruit monocytes and neutrophils by increasing chemokine production. It also stimulates TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8 production and is implicated in chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and multiple sclerosis.
TGF-β and IL-23 are required for induction and maintenance of Th17 cells, which produce IL-17 cytokines. IL-17F, one of six IL-17 family members (IL-17A–F), is highly expressed by activated effector memory T cells and can inhibit angiogenesis while inducing IL2, TGFB1/TGFB, and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 in endothelial cells.
