Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of sensations such as coolness, being activated by cold temperatures below 25°C. It responds to icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and changes in intracellular pH. TRPM8 is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cation (Ca²⁺).
Expression is mainly restricted to prostate epithelial cells, with moderate mRNA levels in normal prostate tissue and elevated expression in prostate cancer. TRPM8 mRNA is also found in several nonprostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely in corresponding normal tissues.
