Target Information
TRPM8 is a receptor-activated non-selective cation channel involved in detection of sensations such as coolness, activated by cold temperature below 25°C. TRPM8 is also activated by icilin, eucalyptol, menthol, and modulated by intracellular pH. It is permeable to monovalent cations (Na⁺, K⁺, Cs⁺) and divalent cation (Ca²⁺).
Expression of TRPM8 in normal human tissues is mostly restricted to prostate epithelial cells. TRPM8 mRNA is moderately expressed in normal prostate tissue and elevated in prostate cancer. It is also expressed in several non-prostatic tumors (breast, colon, lung, skin), but rarely detected in corresponding normal tissues.
