This antibody detects Salmonella paratyphi A specifically.
It does not cross-react with other Salmonella species, E. coli, or Klebsiella.
Target Information
The genus Salmonella belongs to the family Enterobacteriaceae and consists of Gram-negative, facultative, motile bacilli.
Salmonellae possess three major surface antigens:
- H (flagellar) antigen: phase 1 and 2
- O (somatic) antigen: part of the LPS moiety
- Vi (capsular) antigen: also referred to as K in other Enterobacteriaceae
Salmonellae contain LPS endotoxin typical of Gram-negative bacteria, composed of:
- O polysaccharide (O antigen)
- R core
- Lipid A (endotoxic inner component)
Endotoxins can induce fever and activate complement, kinin, and clotting factors.
