Target Information

Heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) are RNA-binding proteins that associate with nascent RNA polymerase II transcripts. They are involved in transcript-specific packaging and alternative splicing of pre-mRNAs. The M1–M4 proteins form a cluster of hnRNPs that bind to poly(G) and poly(U) RNA homopolymers in vitro and are members of the ribonucleoprotein consensus sequence family. These proteins feature a methionine- and arginine-rich hexapeptide repeat (MR motif) similar to that found in the 64 kDa subunit of cleavage stimulation factor, which participates in pre-mRNA 3'-end maturation. Homologous M proteins are present in various eukaryotes from yeast to humans.
