Target Information
CD49f (Integrin alpha-6, ITGA6) is the integrin alpha chain alpha 6 protein. Integrins are integral cell-surface proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain, which combine to form different integrins such as alpha6/beta4 (TSP180) or alpha6/beta1 (VLA-6).
Integrins mediate cell adhesion and cell-surface signaling, interacting with the extracellular matrix (ECM) and intracellular cytoskeletal proteins. They regulate cellular shape, mobility, and cell cycle progression in response to ECM signals and growth factor pathways.
CD49f is predominantly expressed by epithelial cells and plays a structural role in hemidesmosomes. Over 18 alpha and 8 beta subunits, with multiple splice variants, have been identified in mammals. Certain integrins also bind soluble ligands or counter-receptors like ICAMs, facilitating cell aggregation.
