Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD81, a 25 kDa member of the tetraspanin family, expressed on the majority of cells.
Target Information
CD81 (TAPA-1) is a tetraspanin family protein expressed on nearly all nucleated cells, especially germinal center B cells. It forms complexes with other tetraspanins, integrins, and MHC molecules, influencing cell adhesion, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of B and T cells. CD81 also promotes muscle cell fusion and maintenance of myotubes and serves as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus. It is implicated in tumor suppression and may play a role in malignancies.
