This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD81, a 25 kDa member of the tetraspanin family expressed on the majority of cells.
Western Blot: Use under non-reducing conditions.

Target Information

CD81 (TAPA-1, target of anti-proliferative antibody-1) is a member of the tetraspanin family expressed on nearly all nucleated cells, especially germinal center B cells.
It forms complexes with other tetraspanins, integrins, coreceptors, and MHC molecules, influencing adhesion, morphology, activation, proliferation, and differentiation of B and T cells.
In muscle cells, CD81 promotes cell fusion and myotube maintenance. It also serves as a receptor for the hepatitis C virus.
CD81 is a cell surface glycoprotein associated with integrins and may act as a tumor suppressor candidate gene.
Antibodies to CD81 exhibit anti-proliferative effects on lymphoid cell lines, particularly large cell lymphomas.
